Of course, the core of this piano-duet recital consists of Respighi’s world-known tone poems, Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome, which had been circulated in this version since day one—the former was also personally punched by Respighi and Alfredo Casella for a piano roll company. Before each tone poem, a selection of Reynaldo Hahn’s rarely heard, elegant waltzes and a standard of the piano-duet repertoire, Fauré’s Dolly, a suite of six light-hearted, playful pieces inspired by a little girl.
