Another LacMus Festival tradition is that of the “Complete Works” performance. This year, it comes from one of our two artistic directors, Louis Lortie. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest living interpreters of Chopin, yet he had never performed Chopin at “his” Festival and at Villa del Balbianello, his favorite venue. Lortie will perform the complete Chopin Etudes, which amount not to twenty-four, as the celebrated Op. 10 and Op. 25 collections would suggest, but to twenty-seven. This night is thus entirely devoted to retracing Chopin’s passionate struggle with the sonic resources of his beloved instrument.
