Introduction

Here is a program that will sound familiar to many: a selection of famous pieces for soprano and baritone from the verismo opera repertoire, featuring the showstoppers of Leoncavallo, Cilea, and Mascagni. These are combined with a selection from Puccini—one of the centenaries we are commemorating—which blends the well-known with the lesser-known, drawing in particular from his early opera Le Villi, composed at the height of the verismo era.
