A concert in a special location with a breathtaking view over the entire Tremezzina, featuring a program that creates an unprecedented interplay of reflections between the first, delicate quartet written by a 14-year-old Mozart during one of his Italian journeys and Beethoven’s later, more mature works for the same chamber ensemble, culminating in the Great Fugue, Op. 133.
Beethoven poured his entire artistic self into Op. 130 and Op. 133, where string quartet music takes on an extremely spiritual and meditative dimension, making them a perfect fit for a performance at the Sanctuary.
The concert presents a philological exploration of the work, as the quartet was originally conceived to conclude with the Great Fugue, which was later published separately due to editorial and commercial considerations, resulting in two distinct opus numbers.
