On the afternoon of Sunday, December 22, starting at 4:30 PM, with free admission, music becomes itinerant with the third edition of the “Christmas Greenway” on Lake Como, in Tremezzina.
The village of Mezzegra, rich in sumptuous palaces, has once again been chosen for its enchanting atmosphere, which takes on a fairytale quality during the winter season.
Three short concerts, entrusted to the interpretation of young musicians with brilliant artistic careers, will accompany the audience starting from the Church of San Giuseppe.
Under the portico of the small church, a hot tea offered by the Pro Loco of Mezzegra as a welcome gesture will mark the first stop, featuring Lorenzo Bobbio, a young oboist and winner of the National Arts Prize 2022–23. The melodies of G. P. Telemann, C. P. E. Bach, and the expressive sound of the oboe will fill the church, scenically lit for the occasion.
The Christmas Greenway will continue at 5:15 PM with the second stop in the nearby Wooden Altar Chapel of the Church of San Abbondio. The splendor of the frescoes and the magnificence of the wooden altar will set the scene for a duo featuring Elsa Biscari, a singer with “a softly variegated tone and a balanced, intense phrasing,” accompanied by the theorbo of Carlo D’Ariano. The program includes music by G. Caccini, C. Merula, and J. H. Kapsberger, along with traditional Christmas compositions.
The third and final stop, following a refreshment break with mulled wine offered by the Italian Association of Nativity Scene Friends of Tremezzina in the small square of the Nativity Scene House in the historic hamlet of Bonzanigo, will be hosted in Palazzo Brentano, a historic building that will welcome the audience to the sounds of the viola da gamba played by Alessia Travaglini, a well-known performer of this precursor to the modern cello. Accompanied by music from T. Hume, M. Marais, and C. F. Abel, guests will also be able to visit the exhibition The Great Masters of the Nativity Scene, curated by the master nativity scene makers of the AIAP Tremezzina chapter.
