Sinfonia Smith Square’s orchestral Fellowship enables young professional musicians to take their careers to new heights. Each year, we welcome 34 of the world’s most promising musicians to form an orchestra and work together for one annual concert season.
With the opportunity to collaborate with the greatest names in the industry, perform in world-famous venues including our historic London home, Smith Square Hall, and explore a variety of genres, our musicians benefit from the highest level of expertise. It is a community where exciting talents find their voice and creative strengths, fulfil personal goals, and make lasting contacts.
Our musicians go on to become leaders in the classical music world. With over 650 alumni, many occupy Principal positions in world-renowned orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Aurora Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to pursue their career regardless of their background or financial means. That’s why it’s free to audition for Sinfonia Smith Square, and every player receives a bursary to help with the cost of living in London.
“I am deeply grateful to have been part of Sinfonia Smith Square. Not only did it bring about opportunities to play at wonderful venues and interact with leading professional players, itgave an insight into the very real life of becoming an orchestral musician.” Michael Wilson, PRINCIPAL OBOE, HONG KONG PHILHARMONIC
Described as ‘London’s most beautiful concert hall’ our historic home, Smith Square Hall, is a beacon for the future of classical music. Featuring concerts by world-class artists and emerging talent, our programme features choirs, chamber orchestras, seasonal festivals, late night jazz and activities for families, bringing the joy of music to ever-wider audiences.
Through our ‘Doors Open’ project, we will be undertaking a major restoration of Smith Square Hall to create a world-class venue for artists, audiences and the communities we serve, allowing every visitor to appreciate and be moved by the transformative power of music and the arts and the outstanding architecture of the building. We will build on the artistic legacy of our magnificent home. A baroque masterpiece built in the 18th century, this project will see us reinvent it as an acoustic marvel for the 21st.
