Born in Bellinzona in 2001, he began playing the bassoon with his father at the age of seven. In 2013, he performed for the first time as a soloist with the Orchestra del Conservatorio. In 2016, he was admitted to the Pre-College section in Lugano. From 2016 to 2018, he played in the Youth Orchestra of the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad under the direction of Matthias Kuhn. At the Swiss Youth Music Competition in 2018, he won first prize at the regional competition and second prize in the final in Zurich. Since 2016, Samuel has been the first bassoon of the Orchestra Giovanile della Svizzera Italiana, with which he has toured in Spain and Italy. Since 2016, he has taken part in the summer masterclasses of Gabor Meszaros as well as in the international chamber music course held by the bassoonist David Schneebeli and in a masterclass by Dag Jensen. In September 2018, he performed for the second time as a soloist accompanied by the Riviera Vivace Orchestra, while in March 2019, he played for a third time as a soloist accompanied by the Orchestra Giovanile della Svizzera Italiana. In 2020, after serving in the army for 5 months, he began his Bachelor of Arts in Music in Lugano, and since 2021, he has been the principal first bassoon in the Swiss Army Symphonic Wind Orchestra. In 2022, he collaborated with the Zürcher Symphoniker and also with artists such as Andreas Laake for the concert performance of Beethoven’s septet and Schubert’s octet. Also in 2022, he took part in a project called “Maestri and Young Promises,” collaborating with Andrea Oliva, Jacques Deleplanque, Ivan Podyomov, and Calogero Palermo. In 2023, he graduated with honors from the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana, and since 2024, he has been studying at the Hochschule Luzern – Musik.
