Biography

Born in Turin in 1999, he graduated at the age of 16 with full marks, honors and honorable mention at the Turin Conservatory under the guidance of Dario Destefano. At the same time, he studies until 2018 with Natalia Gutman at the Fiesole Music School. He follows masterclasses held by Asier Polo, Johannes Goritzki, David Geringas, Mischa Maisky, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Jens Peter Maintz, Peter Bruns, Thomas Demenga. He attended the Master of Arts in Music Performance at the Lugano Conservatory under the guidance of Johannes Goritzki. He recently finished the Master of Arts in Specialized Music Performance with Asier Polo, obtaining full marks and honors. He wins the 1st prize with special mention at the “Vittorio Veneto” National String Competition” and the 1st prize at the “Pugnani” competition. He wins the “International Cello Competition 2016 NYIAA”, which allows him to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York. He is awarded in Montecitorio by the President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies Laura Boldrini as part of the events for “The European Music Festival 2016”. He recently wins the “Prize of Coruña City” (1st prize) in the V Soncello Competition 2023 in La Coruña, Spain. This victory will allow him to play Shostakovich concerto n.1 with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia next season 2023-2024. He regularly plays as soloist with prestigious orchestras such as Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Chursächsischen Philarmonie Orchestra in Bad Elster (Germany), collaborating with important conductors, including Jose Trigueros, Johannes Goritzki, Arturo Tamayo, Florian Merz, his father Guido Maria Guida. At the age of 14 he performs the Saint-Saëns concert for cello and orchestra at the “G. Verdi” in Turin. In October 2017, in the prestigious season of the Unione Musicale in Turin, he plays the “Variations de concert” by Jean Françaix for cello and string orchestra. He performs as soloist “Phantasiestück in C’s Manier” by Friedrich Cerha with the Orchestra of the Lugano Conservatory and the concert is broadcast in live streaming by Radiotelevisione della Svizzera Italiana. He often plays in various chamber ensembles and he collaborates with important musicians such as Louis Lortie, Anton Dressler, Paolo Bressan, with the principals of the Rai National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia and Camerata Salzburg, namely Roberto Righetti, Simone Briatore, Stefano Guarino.

He performs in important concert halls, including the Carignano Theater in Turin, as well as for renowned events and for important seasons, such as that one of Unione Musicale and of De Sono Associazione per la Musica in Turin, “Sesto Rocchi” Festival, “Vitae Aeternae” Festival, “Back to

Bach” Festival, “Torino Classical Music Festival”, Ticino Musica Festival, MITO 2019 Festival, Garda Lake Music Festival, Casalmaggiore International Music Festival. He was awarded scholarships from the Associazione per la Musica De Sono, from the “Musical Talents, CRT Foundation”, the Ente CRF provided by the Fiesole School of Music, from the Stiftung Lyra in Zurich. He regularly plays in duo with his brother, with whom he performs both in Italy – in the chamber season of “Laverdi” in Milan, at the “Noli Festival” (Savona), in the Ensemble Nuove Musiche di Savona season – and abroad: for the LAC of Lugano, Düsseldorf, Mexico City and Guatemala City. Since 2022 he plays in the Trio Kobalt with the violinist Irenè Fiorito and the pianist Riccardo Ronda and they recently won 1st prize in the Gasparo da Salò Competition in Brescia. Lorenzo Guida plays the Erminio Farina 1910 cello, granted on loan for free use by the Antonio Carlo Monzino Foundation. (www.fondazioneacmonzino.it)
