Biography

Ewa Helmers studied at university with Prof. Jost Witter in Weimar.

She was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, working with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Seiji Ozawa, Franz Welser-Möst and Pierre Boulez. She also received a scholarship from the orchestra’s academy and studied with Alfred Altenburger and Rainer Honeck. She later joined the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under Daniel Barenboim.

As a scholarship holder, she was awarded a violin by the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben Hamburg, which she was able to use for several years.

At the Louis Spohr International Competition in Weimar, she was awarded the third prize. She also attended masterclasses with Igor Ozim and Norbert Brainin, and chamber music courses with Jürgen Kußmaul, Barbara Westphal and others.

As a soloist, she has performed with orchestras such as the Weimarer Staatskapelle and the Jenaer Philharmonic Orchestra.

She was a member of the first violin section of the Staatskapelle Berlin under Daniel Barenboim and has been performing with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig under Andris Nelsons since 2007.
