In Tremezzina, looking up from the ancient village of Ossuccio towards the mountain, one can see the splendid Sanctuary of the Madonna del Soccorso rising among the olive groves.
Set in a dominant position on a rocky hill, overlooking the Orrido del Tufo and the mouth of the Val Perlana, the Sanctuary opens onto an enchanting panorama that stretches from the Comacina Island and the Balbianello Peninsula to Tremezzo, Bellagio, and Varenna. On the horizon rise the Grigne, Mount San Primo, and in the distance, the peaks of the Alps.
Leading up to the Sanctuary along a gently ascending sacred path are 14 Baroque chapels, which—with remarkable frescoes and statues—depict the Mysteries of the Rosary in a popular and accessible language.
Built and decorated in the 17th century, the chapels and the Sanctuary together form a remarkable example of a Sacro Monte, the most important in the Como area and one of the nine pre-Alpine Sacri Monti included by UNESCO in the World Heritage List in 2003.
In this splendid setting, the Municipality of Tremezzina offers nine guided walks along the Sacred Path up to the Sanctuary. These walks allow for a slow and mindful exploration—both artistic and devotional—of the Sacro Monte Chapels, entrusted to the engaging commentary of expert guides.
