Biography

Principal Flute of the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala and the Filarmonica della Scala since 2015.

He studied at the “Tito Schipa” Conservatory in Lecce under the guidance of Luigi Bisanti, graduating at the age of 16 with top marks and honors. He further refined his skills at the Accademia di Imola with Persichilli, Mercelli, and Cambursano, in Florence with Marasco, and at the “Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique” in Geneva with Jacques Zoon.

Considered one of the most brilliant flutists of his generation, he has won prizes in major international flute competitions, including the “Francesco Cilea” Competition in Palmi, the “Leonardo De Lorenzo” Competition in Viggiano, the Yamaha Music Foundation Competition in Milan, the “Emanuele Krakamp” Competition in Naples, the “Pellegrini” Competition in Cagliari, the 38th International Competition in Budapest, and the First “Maxence Larrieu” International Flute Competition in Nice.

In 2001/2002, he attended the Accademia della Scala and was selected as Principal Flute of the “Luigi Cherubini” Youth Orchestra. In 2003, at just 20 years old, he won the position of Principal Flute in the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio in Turin under the direction of Gianandrea Noseda.

He has been invited as guest Principal Flute by renowned orchestras such as the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Opera di Roma, Stuttgart Philharmoniker, Hungarian National Philharmonic, Noord Nederlands Orkest, and Symphonica Toscanini conducted by Lorin Maazel, performing on tours across Europe, the U.S., Japan, China, and Israel.

As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed in numerous Italian and international festivals. In 2018, he was invited to play in the Lucerne Festival Orchestra under the direction of Riccardo Chailly.

His discography includes a recording of Prokofiev’s Sonata Op. 115 for Syrinx magazine and an album featuring works for flute and piano by Casella, Feld, Liebermann, and Martinu for the Italian flute magazine FaLaUt. He has also recorded pieces by Carulli and Giuliani with guitarist Giulio Tampalini for Amadeus, and for Warner Music with the Scala Octet. For Brilliant Classics, he has recorded Complete Flute Quartets by Mozart and French Songs, featuring works by Ravel, Debussy, and Fauré in a duo with harp.

He is the Artistic Director of the International Academy “Incontri col Maestro” in Imola and a professor at the Academy for Orchestra Musicians of Teatro alla Scala.
