This concert is divided into two parts, differing in ensemble, program, and setting. The first part, Music in the Museum Halls, presents three string quartet pieces with a similar atmosphere: a rarely heard youthful work by Puccini and one movement each from the quartets of Debussy and Fauré. The second part features five piano pieces by four Romantic composers—Chopin, Fauré, Rachmaninov, and Tchaikovsky—all built upon the gentle, rocking rhythm of the barcarolle.
